Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Irish Position on Sellafield II — THORP.

Avril Doyle

Question:

213 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give the Irish position on the phasing out of the Sellafield II or Thorp issue to be discussed at the June meeting of the Paris Convention.

The Paris Commission meeting in June will deal with the prevention of all types of marine pollution from land-based sources and is primarily a matter for the Minister for the Environment. However, in relation to the discharge of radioactive wastes from Sellafield, including THORP, the Deputy can be assured that the Government's concerns will be raised during the meeting.
