Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Road Freight Carrier's Licence.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

214 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when he will be in a position to give a response to representations made on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who applied in August 1992 for a road freight carrier's licence in view of Deputy Dukes' correspondence to him and his predecessor (details supplied) and the fact that, to date, Deputy Dukes has received only acknowledgements to these representations.

An application for a road freight carrier's licence was received from the applicant in question on 2 September 1992. The applicant designated as a transport manager an individual who already had full-time employment elsewhere. It is my Department's general policy not to approve transport managers who by virtue of such employment, are unable to continuously and effectively manage the transport business. This difficulty was communicated to the applicant by letter of 22 December 1992.

If the applicant nominates an alternative person who holds a Certificate of Competance and is of good repute to continuously and effectively manage the road haulage business of the applicant, my Department will issue the licence without delay.
