Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Irish Investments Abroad.

Ivor Callely

Question:

100 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the amount of moneys which were invested abroad by Irish investors in 1992 and a comparison figure for 1989.

The available information is given in the item "Private capital, other than Semi-State Companies" in the Balance of Payments statement. It covers transactions in foreign assets by Irish non-bank non-government residents other than semi-state companies, and is net of transactions in foreign liabilities. Work is continuing to improve the quality of the estimates for these items in the Balance of Payments statement.

The latest available estimates relate to the first half of 1992. In that period the net investment abroad was estimated at £591 million, compared with £627 million in the first half of 1989.
