Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Drumshanbo (Leitrim) Lock Construction.

John Ellis

Question:

113 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance the number and location of all lock construction work presently being carried out by the Office of Public Works; and if he will give the cost and timescale for each project.

The only lock under construction by the Commissioners of Public Works at present is at Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. This lock will facilitate the opening up of Lough Allen to navigation. The project is unique in that a complex double lock has to be provided in order to take account of varying water levels in Lough Allen itself.

Work commenced late last year and is expected to be completed by early autumn at a total cost of about £380,000. This includes the lock gates and associated electro hydraulic operating equipment.
