Vol. 431 No. 5

Written Answers. - Petrol Costs.

Michael Noonan

Question:

54 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the additional cost on a gallon of petrol attributable to the mandatory take off from Whitegate refinery.

The additional cost of petrol attributable to the mandatory take-off from Whitegate refinery varies from time to time. A general idea of the scale can be got from the report of the Fair Trade Commission on the Supply and Distribution of Motor Fuels, which estimated that over the four year period examined, the additional cost, including the cost of storing that part of our national oil stocks in the refinery, was 2.45 pence per gallon. Recent examination of import data indicates that, over the 12 month period September 1991 to September 1992, there has been little change in this figure.
