Vol. 431 No. 5

Written Answers. - Amalgamation of Schools.

Noel Ahern

Question:

90 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if the report being carried out by her Department to see if the amalgamation of the three comprehensive schools in Ballymun, Dublin 11, is possible has been completed; whether the consideration of amalgamation has been abandoned as not being feasible due to the introduction of the six year school cycle and to the fact that Ballymun flats are once again full; and if she will appoint a parents' representative to the school board.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 337 of 9 March 1993. The examination in question has not yet been completed. Accordingly no decisions have been taken on the reorganisation of the schools.

The future management structure of comprehensive schools including the question of parent representation on the Board of Management will be among the issues to be considered in the context of discussions leading to the White Paper on Education.
