Vol. 432 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rosslare, Strand, Wexford Coastal Protection.

Avril Doyle

Question:

141 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for the Marine the reason there has been no 1993 maintenance and coast protection work on Rosslare Strand, County Wexford; when this year's work will start; and the funding arrangement relating to this work.

The Department of the Marine is currently finalising plans for this year's phase of coast protection works at Rosslare Strand which will be carried out later this year. The 1993 works will build on the works undertaken at Rosslare in recent years. The planned work will involve provision of extended rock groynes and a large volume of beach nourishment. It will form part of the EC-sponsored ECOPRO project — Environmentally Friendly Coast Protection.

Funding arrangements for the project remain to be finalised.
