Vol. 432 No. 6

Written Answers. - New County Enterprise Boards.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

38 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has issued a directive that at least 40 per cent of the members of the new county enterprise boards must be women; if he will insist on this rate of participation by women; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently, with the approval of the Government, requested the county and city managers to undertake the task of selecting the panel of members for the new boards to be established in each local authority area.

I have drawn the attention of the managers to the Government's objective of achieving a minimum of 40 per cent of both women and men among the nominees to these boards. I am confident that each manager makes every effort to complete a list which meets this objective.
