102 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice if proposals for the establishment of a national neighbourhood watch council have been submitted to her or the Garda Commissioner; her views on the establishment of such a council; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
I am considering various suggestions and recommendations, in consultation with the Garda authorities, for introducing a more effective structure at national level to advise on strategies for preventing and combating crime. Any such structure would have regard to the existing crime prevention policies and schemes, including the neighbourhood watch scheme.
