Vol. 432 No. 7

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection Agency.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

34 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Environment if the Environmental Protection Agency is as yet fully operational; and if it has a programme to regulate and set standards for the manufacturing industry.

The director general and director of the agency have been appointed and are at present preparing a work programme and assessing the resources required to discharge the functions set out in the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992. I intend formally to establish the agency within the next month and to assign functions to it on a phased basis. Licensing of scheduled activities will be given priority attention.
