Question:

103 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the month of the year the money is paid out to farmers; and the month of the year the money is paid into Ireland by Brussels.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 102 and 103 together.

The amount payable to co-operatives in respect of the 4.5 per cent suspended quota was as follows:

Year

Rate per Gallon

£

1987-88

0.3828

1988-89

0.38952

1989-90

0.39535

1990-91

0.3409

1991-92

0.28795

In accordance with the regulation the compensation concerned was paid to the milk purchasers during the first quarter of the 12 month period following the year of withdrawal, for passing on to their producers. In line with normal procedure relating to EC financial payments, the moneys were reimbursed from the Community funds approximately two months after the last day of the month of payment by the Department.
