Vol. 432 No. 8

Written Answers. - Angling Development.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

48 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine the action, if any, he intends to take on the recommendations for fisheries development contained in a baseline fisheries survey of the Ilen River, County Cork which was submitted to his Department early in 1993 by the River Ilen Anglers Club, Skibbereen; and when funding will be provided to meet the requests contained in that survey.

The Riven Ilen anglers' club has applied under the Leader programme for a grant for angling development.

The Central Fisheries Board in support of the preparation of this application undertook two surveys for the angling club, one in 1992 and one earlier this year. The angling development proposals which have been submitted to Leader are based on the recommendations which arose from these surveys.
The South Western Regional Fisheries Board has given every assistance to the angling club in the preparation and advancement of its submission. I understand that the grant has been approved under the Leader programme. The timing of the payment of this grant is a matter between West Cork Leader and the Ilen anglers' club.
