Vol. 432 No. 8

Written Answers. - Extension of Coal Ban.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

84 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment if he will re-examine the smog legislation with a view to extending the area covered by the ban on bituminous coal, in view of the fact that it is perfectly legal for someone who lives within an area covered by the ban to burn bituminous coal purchased in an area where its sale is not banned.

Wexford): As is customary at the end of each heating season, all aspects of the coal ban are at present being reviewed by my Department with a view to any necessary adaptation or extension of control measures. I will consider the need for any extensions of restricted areas in this context.
