Vol. 432 No. 8

Written Answers. - Harbour/Port Facilites Development.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

90 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine the extent to which it is intended to develop harbour or port facilities for fishing, trade or tourism purposes in the next three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Harbour authorities and private sector port project promoters have submitted numerous development proposals to the Department of the Marine for consideration for EC grant aid.

On the basis of the project proposals submitted and the Department's own proposals, a comprehensive port development programme covering all aspects of port use — commercial, fishing, amenity and tourism — has been submitted by the Department of the Marine for consideration in the context of the preparation of the national plan for the utilisation of the next round of Structural Funds. It will not, of course, be possible to make final decisions on any of the projects submitted until such time as the ports allocation under the national plan has been determined.
