Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Otter Hunting Licences.

Enda Kenny

Question:

128 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance if he has received any applications for otter hunting licences for 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No applications have been received this year for such licences and none has been granted since 1989.

While the otter is a protected species under the Wildlife Act, 1976 the Act also provides that licences to hunt this species may be issued.
I will examine any applications for hunting licences under the Act having regard to the conservation status of the species and Ireland's international position in respect of it.
