Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dissolution of Land Commission.

Michael Creed

Question:

212 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when he intends introducing the Statutory Instrument to abolish the Land Commission as provided for in the Irish Land Commission Dissolution Bill, 1992.

While it is my intention to introduce an order commencing the Irish Land Commission (Dissolution) Act, 1992 as soon as possible I am not in a position to give a definite date in the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that the dissolution Act provides for the transfer to me of the continuing powers and functions of the Land Commission. These include certain judicial or quasi-judicial powers and certain "excepted" functions previously reserved to the Lay Commissioners. Arrangements are currently being made to provide a framework within which the transferred powers and functions of the Land Commission can be exercised. The Irish Land Commission (Dissolution) Act, 1992 will be commenced when these arrangements are finalised.
