237 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Health if he has received a submission from the Western Health Board regarding a proposal for funding towards the purchase of a suitable site at Achill, County Mayo, for the purpose of providing a 40 bed unit; if, in view of the population structure in the area, he has given consideration to this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Western Health Board has plans to provide a Community Nursing Unit at Achill, County Mayo. They are presently making arrangements to determine the suitability of a possible site. However, building of the unit will depend, in the first instance, on the capital funding made available on a national basis in the coming years for community nursing units for the elderly and secondly, the internal priorities of the Western Health Board.
