Question:

256 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the total funding given to Ireland from the EC for the Europe against Cancer programme; the way in which these funds will be allocated; and the persons or groups that will receive funding.

In 1992, the latest year for which complete figures are available, Ireland received 354,900 ECU, IR£263,220, under the Europe against Cancer programme. This support was received for projects in the areas of anti-tobacco, health education, public information, training and screening. The organisations which received funding were the Health Promotion Unit of my Department, the Irish Cancer Society, the National Youth Council of Ireland, the Department of Health Promotion in University College, Galway, the Departments of Nursing Studies and of Public Health Medicine in University College, Dublin and the Mater Foundation Breastscreening Pilot Project.
