Helen Keogh

Question:

259 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the services of the two remedial teachers in Archbishop McQuaid junior school, Loughlinstown, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin are retained; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

260 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she intends to withdraw one of the two remedial teachers from Archbishop McQuaid junior national school, Loughlinstown, County Dublin; if her attention has been drawn to the critical need for the retention of the two remedial teachers in this school which is located in a disadvantaged area; if she has received a submission from the school making the case for the retention of the teachers; and if she will ensure that the school does not lose either of its remedial teachers.

Seán Barrett

Question:

261 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Education the number of remedial teachers attached to Archbishop McQuaid junior national school, Loughlinstown, County Dublin; and if there are any plans to alter the number for the coming year.

Remedial teacher posts are allocated to schools on the basis of priority of need as indicated by data collected from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate. The school in question currently has the services of two full-time remedial teachers.

Because of on-going changes in the level of remedial need in individual schools over time, it is necessary to review allocations on a continuing basis to ensure that optimum value is obtained from this valuable resource. I have no proposal to withdraw remedial teaching posts from this school.
