Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota and Employment.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

39 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of jobs that would be created or maintained if Irish farmers were allowed to produce the extra 4.5 per cent milk quota.

It is not at all certain that an addition to the national milk pool of the amount referred to would lead to the creation or maintenance of jobs. The relationship between additional quota and employment is a matter for the industry and would have to have regard to such issues as market outlets for the increased output as well as the effect on the market generally of increased supply of milk.
