81 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether, in view of the high rainfall in the last five weeks, he will consider arrangements to make set-aside land available for forage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44, 72 and 81 together.

EC Regulations preclude the use of land, set-aside under the Common Agricultural Policy reform arable aid arrangements, for any agricultural purpose other than for production of raw materials for non-food uses. It is not open to a member state to waive this rule. It is in fact an eligibility condition for payment of compensatory aids to arable producers who have to withdraw land from production.
