Vol. 433 No. 3

Written Answers. - Transport of Horse Boxes.

Michael Bell

Question:

62 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has to change the regulations regarding the transport of horse boxes; the type of vehicle that may or may not be used in relation to such transporting; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has no specific regulations relating to the transport of horses or the use of horse boxes. The carriage of merchandise for hire or reward in vehicles which are in excess of 2.5 metric tonnes unladen weight requires a licence in accordance with the European Community (Merchandise Road Transport) Regulations, 1991.
