Question:147 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the retention of the assistant teacher at Crossboyne Primary School, Claremorris, County Mayo.

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.
In the case of Crossboyne Primary School there were 24 pupils enrolled on 30 September 1992 which warrants a staffing of principal only for the 1993-94 school year.
The post of first assistant is to be discontinued with effect from 31 August 1993, as the enrolment on 30 September, 1992 did not warrant its retention.
