Question:

105 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of farmers in County Sligo who have availed of the land annuity terms agreed in 1992 to buy out their farms; and if he will make a statement on the progress of the scheme.

The closing date for acceptance of the offer by farmers to buy out their annuities at a reduced rate was 31 May 1993 and some 12,400 farmers out of the 23,500 who were eligible availed of the offer by paying £9.4 million approximately. Three hundred and thirteen farmers in County Sligo out of a possible 553 availed of the special buy-out offer by paying £165,677.
