Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Interpretative Centres.

Avril Doyle

Question:

22 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht his views on the building and location of interpretative centres; whether he has received or vetted submissions in respect of future centres; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My main objective is to ensure that widespread and real consultation will take place with all interested parties before any decision is made on the siting of interpretative centres. Each such centre must be considered as a unique project and the optimum location for it determined by the special factors appertaining to it. In general the siting should be such as to minimise any adverse impacts on the environment while maximising the economic benefits to the local community. Some suggestions have been made to me regarding possible additional centres but no detailed submissions have been made to me for my approval.
