Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Donations of Works of Art.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

26 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the encouragement on offer to those who are willing to donate paintings or works of art to the nation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am happy to acknowledge the generosity of spirit that leads people to donate paintings and works of art to the nation. Such generous donations continue to be made, despite the fact that there are at present no specific inducements to encourage donations. I am in principle in favour of the introduction of such inducements and I propose to examine this issue, including schemes that exist in other countries, to establish whether a case can be made for their adoption in this country.
