Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Employment in the Arts.

Mary Harney

Question:

33 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if there are any statistics available on the overall number of persons working full time in the Arts in Ireland.

I am advised by An Chomhairle Ealaíon that there are currently no comprehensive statistics on the number of people working in the arts in Ireland. However, An Chomhairle in conjunction with other interested bodies including my own Department, is conducting two studies which will provide reliable information in relation to employment levels in the arts in Ireland.

The first survey will provide a comprehensive human resource profile of full-time managers in the arts and heritage area and is due for completion in April 1994.

The second survey relates to employment in cultural industries on a national basis as well as a case-study of the Temple Bar area in Dublin and is due for completion by the autumn.
