Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - INTERREG Funded Schemes.

Edward Nealon

Question:

51 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of all the schemes for County Leitrim approved by the working group which deliberated on INTERREG funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

To date 18 projects located entirely in County Leitrim have been approved by the various working groups under the INTERREG Programme. These are restoration of the Lough Allen Canal to link the Shannon with the town of Drumshanbo, development work at the Rossinver Fishery, development work on sections of the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal, assistance to two cruise companies based in Carrick-on-Shannon to purchase cruisers, assistance to Carrick-on-Shannon vocational education committee to set up a range of courses in the international design, hospitality, leisure, business management and IT training sectors, assistance in production of the County Leitrim Enterprise Development Plan, Ballinamore sewerage scheme, Manorhamilton sewerage scheme, rural development studies in North Leitrim, the Cavan/Leitrim Railway Company in respect of a railway restoration project, and work on the Fenagh/Edentenny, Gortnagregory/Treankillew and Ballinamore/County Boundary roads.

County Leitrim will continue to benefit from a large number of projects having a wider geographical coverage than the county, such as GULLIVER — the all Ireland computerised reservation system developed by Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board — and other joint and cross-Border promotional ventures.

These are assistance towards fishing facilities on Lough Arrow, Sligo International Choral Festival, Sligo Jazz Festival, development of the Lough Gill and River Bonet, the Easkey River, and the Drumcliffe River/Glencar Lake fisheries, Sligo vocational education committee in respect of training courses in the international design, hospitality, leisure, business management and IT sectors, Sligo Railway Station, Sligo Bus Station, work on the Hazelwood, and Belladrehid to Ransboro roads, and the Sligo/Tyrone Exchange Programme for understanding and prosperity.

Sligo will continue to benefit from a large number of INTERREG funded projects having a wider geographical coverage than the county, such as GULLIVER — the all Ireland computerised reservation system developed by Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board — and other joint and cross-Border promotional ventures.
