Vol. 433 No. 6

Written Answers. - Thatching of Houses.

Edward Nealon

Question:

82 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment the funds that were paid out or agreed under the grant for the thatching of houses in 1992; the numbers involved; the estimate of the total number of thatched houses in the country; and if he will make a statement on the unlikely impact of the thatch grants for the sustaining of these numbers.

Information regarding the number of thatched houses in the country is not available. Since the scheme of thatching grants was introduced in April 1990, nearly 2,000 applications have been received. Grants totalling £401,868 were paid to 259 applicants in 1992.
