Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coolock (Dublin) Garda Deployment.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

176 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice if she will ensure that Garda patrols visit Glin Court Senior Citizens' Centre, Coolock, Dublin 17, on a very regular basis between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. especially; and if she will provide more community gardaí for the Coolock area.

The Garda authorities inform me that there are currently seven community gardaí in the Coolock sub-District, two of whom have special responsibility for the area in the vicinity of the Glin Court Senior Citizens' Centre. These community gardaí perform regular foot patrols in the vicinity of the centre, and they work different tours of duty in order to provide maximum attention to their area.

In addition, I am informed that mobile patrols from Coolock station have been instructed to pay particular attention to the Senior Citizens' Centre during the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., in addition to the divisional task force, which also operates mobile patrols.

Local Garda management are keeping the policing arrangements for this area under continuing review to ensure that these arrangements are successful. Further adjustments will be made if they are considered necessary, but there are no plans at present to appoint any additional community gardaí in the Coolock area.
