Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Parking Problems in Residential Areas.

Noel Ahern

Question:

183 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the progress her Department and the Garda Commissioner have made in the past six months in drawing up bye-laws in order to solve the ongoing problems caused by the parking of commerical heavy vehicles in residential areas; and if she will make a statement on the matter, in particular outlining the next steps to be taken, problems to be overcome and so forth; and when this issue is likely to be finalised.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that draft temporary rules, provision for which is contained in the Road Traffic Act, 1961, have been forwarded by the Commissioner to the Attorney General for consideration. In addition, the question of alternative parking for the vehicles in question is also being examined. At this stage, it is not possible to say when the matter is likely to be finalised.
