Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kilcock (Kildare) Courthouse.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

190 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the need for the provision of a new courthouse at Kilcock, County Kildare, in view of the fact that there are cramped working conditions in the existing building; if she intends to make technical or financial provision for such premises in 1994; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Last week my Department received representations to the effect that due to the increasing number and widening range of District Court cases being heard in it, Kilcock Courthouse requires additional space. I am informed that the District Court Clerk has written to the County Manager in the matter.

Because of the limited funds available for courthouse capital projects, I cannot give any undertaking as to availability of funds for Kilcock from my Department. The Department is currently prioritising all courthouse accommodation in need of attention with a view to ensuring that a major task of refurbishing courthouses can be tackled as quickly and effectively as resources allow.
