Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Employment Schemes/Community Enterprise Development Programmes.

Noel Ahern

Question:

197 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give details of all social employment schemes and community enterprise development programmes currently being operated, and the numbers and cost involved.

The Social Employment Scheme/Community Employment Development Programme projects assist voluntary groups and public sector bodies to do worthwhile work which they could not otherwise have undertaken. Projects may involve improving the local environment, education, sports, arts, tourism or community development.

As at 27 August, 1993 there were some 3,300 projects underway involving 15,538 participants — an end year target of 20,500 participants has been set at an estimated cost of about £106 million in 1993.
