Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

218 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide details of those who applied for national lottery funds in each of the years 1991, 1992 and 1993; the applicants who were successful; the amount of grant approved in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Paul Bradford

Question:

231 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the national lottery amenity grant scheme is not in operation; if funding will be provided for this scheme, allowing local community and sporting groups to seek lottery funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 218 and 231 together.

Schedules listing the grants allocated under the Amenity/Recreational Facilities Grants Schemes for 1991 and previous years are available in the Oireachtas Library. The preparation of a statement giving details of each of the 3,607 applications received under the 1991 scheme would absorb a disproportionate amount of staff time. In any event, this information might more appropriately be obtained directly from the local authorities whose responsibility it was to process the applications.

There was no provision in my Department's Vote for 1992 or 1993 for a new Amenities/Recreational Facilities Grants Scheme. The 1993 provision of £1.671 million is to cover the payment of grants allocated under the 1990 and 1991 schemes. Local authorities have been advised that certified claims for grant payments must be received in my Department by 3 December, 1993. Payment of grants allocated in 1991 and earlier years will not be made after 31 December, 1993.
