Written Answers. - EC Directives.

Phil Hogan

Question:

228 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment when Directive 80/68/EEC - Ground Water - will be transposed into law; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Wexford): A comprehensive statutory control regime in relation to water quality is provided by the Local Government (Water Pollution) Acts, 1977 and 1990 and associated regulations. These include specific provisions of Directive 80/68/EEC in the Local Government (Water Pollution) Regulations, 1992 (S.I. No. 271 of 1992). New waste legislation, currently in preparation, will provide for further controls on landfill operations, including measures relevant to ground water protection.
