Question:236 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give sanction to Leitrim County Council for the purchase of property (details supplied) in County Leitrim which was sought in July 1993.

Provided a local authority keeps within the limits of its annual capital allocation for housing construction and its number of approved housing "starts" for the year, the specific approval of my Department is not required to the purchase of a house by a local authority. Leitrim County Council have been advised to this effect. I understand from the council that the purchase of the house in question is currently being finalised by them.
