Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) Water Supply.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

237 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he has studied the report arising from the pollution in 1991 of the water supply at Naas, County Kildare; if he has made or received any recommendations on foot of this report; if he intends to take any further action in the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the Naas water pollution incident of 1991 my Department prepared draft guidelines to assist local authorities in the preparation of action plans for the protection of drinking water supplies. These were circulated to all local authorities and to interested groups and organisations for comment. A number of submissions were received and some modifications, based on the views expressed, were incorporated into the final version which issued to all local authorities in December 1992. Local authorities were asked to prepare action plans for their areas based on the guidelines.
