Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - College of Horticulture (Drogheda) Louth.

Paul Bradford

Question:

320 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the College of Horticulture, Drogheda, County Louth, was forced to postpone its scheduled reopening in September due to his Department's failure to provide adequate personnel numbers for the college; if he will have arrangements made so that this matter is now responded to; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The difficulty at the College of Horticulture, An Grianan, County Louth, arose because a teacher there is on sick leave. It is not normal to recruit a replacement in these circumstances. However, as an exceptional arrangement in this case, I recently decided, with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, to sanction the recruitment of a temporary teacher to ease the particular difficulties being experienced at the college.
