Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

Richard Bruton

Question:

365 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he will make a subvention towards the cost of private orthodontic treatment for persons who have been listed on the Category 2 list, but who have been waiting for three or more years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Programme for Government contains provision for the development of the health board orthodontic services. Over the period of the programme I intend that each health board will put in place a comprehensive orthodontic service. This will enable significant further increases in service levels. I do not propose therefore, to introduce a subsidy for the provision of private orthodontic treatment.
