445 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Education if she will provide figures for each of the years 1988 to 1992 for new enrolments in each of the following categories of special schools, mild mental handicap, moderate mental handicap, physical disability and other special schools.
Information on the total enrolments in the various special schools mentioned by the Deputy, for each of the years in question, is set out in the tabular statement attached.
It should, however, be noted that the figures quoted, while including new enrolments, will be net of children who have left the schools during the periods in question.
A precise breakdown of the new enrolments in any given year is not readily available.
