Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Education Convention Costs.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

451 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a detailed estimate of the cost of the National Education Convention broken down by secretariat costs, cost of visiting experts, hire of premises, public relations, administration and other costs.

I will be happy to provide the Deputy with a detailed breakdown of the costs of the National Education Convention, following completion of the work of the Convention.

I would like to point out particularly in relation to the costs of the professional secretariat that the people involved have given, and will continue to give, generously of their time and expertise, motivated by a spirit of public service. The exact cost will only be available following an assessment of the full extent of their time commitment up to the completion of their work following the Convention.
At this stage I can indicate to the Deputy that it is estimated that some £80,000 will be incurred in relation to the following aspects of the Convention:— organisation including facilities and provisions for delegates and the press, keeping a record of the proceedings and producing the secretariat's report, communications consultancy and miscellaneous other costs.
