459 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the number of additional primary school teachers who were employed in September 1993 in the context of improving the pupil/teacher ratio; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Two hundred posts which were due to be lost because of declining enrolments in primary schools are being retained for the 1993-94 school year. The current pupil teacher ratio is 24.2:1.
