Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

411 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction plans for the extension of facilities at Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare, in the near future; if she has examined the proposals and has satisfied herself as to the urgency of the case made by the school authorities; if she will respond positively to the submissions made; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

416 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the current position in regard to the provision of extra facilities at Scoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare; if it is intended to make financial provision for such facilities in the context of the 1994 estimates; if the urgent need to make provision for these facilities has been drawn to her attention; the full extent of the facilities likely to be provided; when such facilities will be provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 66, 411 and 416 together.

The Bills of Quantities for the proposed extension at this school are currently being examined by my Department. When this examination has been satisfactorily completed the question of proceeding to tender will be considered. The extension being planned comprises five specialist classrooms, one general classroom and a general purpose area.

It has not been possible to include this project in the 1993 capital programme because of other projects deemed to be of a higher priority which had to take precedence. The project will be considered in due course for inclusion in the 1994 capital programme in the light of objective criteria related to relevant educational, building and financial factors.
