Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Clonakilty (Cork) School.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

77 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Education when funding will be allocated for the provision of a new boys national school for Clonakilty, County Cork; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that almost 200 children are presently accommodated in five small classrooms in the old schoolhouse with poor ventilation and no playground facilities; and if she will give an assurance that priority will be given to this application under the National Schools Programme for 1994.

I am aware of the position at this school. The provision of a new school has been agreed and architectural planning has been put in hands.

It was not possible to include this project in the 1993 primary school capital programme because of other demands deemed to be of a higher priority which had to take precedence. The project will continue to be considered for inclusion in the programme in the light of available resources and other commitments and priorities.
