Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Appointment of Teacher.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

112 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education when she will appoint a teacher to Butlersbridge national school, in view of the fact that the school is only two children short of the required amount and taking into account the number of young qualified teachers seeking employment.

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment in Butlersbridge national school at 30 of September 1992 was 92 which warrants a staffing of a Principal and two assistants.

The post of third assistant has been suppressed with effect from 31 August 1993 as the enrolment at the 30 September 1992 did not warrant its retention. The third assistant teacher has been redeployed.

I regret that, in view of the fact that there are over 3,200 national schools, it is necessary to adhere strictly to the rules governing the staffing of schools, and exceptions may not be made in individual cases.
