Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

129 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance the areas of County Kerry designated as natural heritage areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As yet, no sites have been designated as Natural Heritage Areas.

A nationwide resurvey of areas of scientific interest is currently underway, in order to assess them for possible designation as Natural Heritage Areas.

I expect the survey to be 80 per cent completed by the end of 1993 and formal designation of Natural Heritage Areas will begin towards the end of this year.

Landowners will be notified where their lands are designated as Natural Heritage Areas and there will be an open-ended appeals system set up whereby the landowner can appeal the designation at any stage.
