82 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount of European funding paid to private golf clubs within the State over the past five years; the names and locations of such clubs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
While private golf clubs have not been funded under schemes operated directly by my Department, aid has been granted for golf courses and certain golfing facilities under the Agri-Tourism Scheme which forms part of the operational programme for rural development.
Under the scheme a total of five golf courses have been developed involving total grant payments of £371,700, some £241,600 of which is contributed from the EC Structural Funds. Also under the scheme a further 24 projects developing golfing facilities, e.g. driving range, pitch and putt etc. have been funded with total grant payments of £431,600, some £280,000 of which is contributed from the EC Structural Funds.
The five golf courses involved are at:
Mount Temple, Moate, County Westmeath.
Broadmeadow, Roganstown House, Swords, County Dublin.
Bodyke, County Clare.
Clonyn Castle, Delvin, County Westmeath.
