Question:

125 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment the projects in County Donegal that are being considered by his Department for development under the National Development Plan, 1994-1999.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 46 and 125 together.

The National Development Plan gives some examples of the types of projects proposed, including the Donegal by-pass and improvement of the N56 to Killybegs and the N13-A6 Letterkenny-Derry road. However, complete information will not be available until Operational Programmes have been finalised and submitted to the EC Commission and until these and a Community Support Framework have been agreed with the Commission.

John Browne

Question:

51 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for the Environment his views on the necessity to upgrade the N81 from Carlow to Waterford.

The road from Carlow to Waterford forms part of the N9 national primary route. Approximately £1.75 million in road grants has been paid to the relevant local authorities in respect of improvement works on this section of the N9 in the period 1989-1992. The 1993 road grant allocations include £870,000 for work on the N9 route in Carlow and Kilkenny; and £350,000 for design work on the Terminus Street and Grannagh-Waterford schemes. Further investment to bring this route up to a standard capable of serving the needs of traffic using it will be considered in the context of the Operational Programme for the period 1994-1999 which is now being prepared.
