Vol. 434 No. 9
55 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give the number of sanitary authorities throughout the country who have notified his Department of their failure to meet EC Directives on drinking water quality.
A full analysis of drinking water quality monitoring results in national and local terms is contained in annual national reports on the quality of drinking water in Ireland, copies of which are in the Oireachtas Library.
In general, this analysis confirms the fundamentally good quality of Irish drinking water supplies. Where water supplies do not comply with the quality standards set in the Drinking Water Regulations, sanitary authorities must prepare an action programme to remedy the problems involved, and any related capital works have a priority status within the water and sanitary services programme.
