Vol. 434 No. 9

Written Answers. - Temporary Official Halting Sites.

Alan Shatter

Question:

67 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the contacts, if any, he has had with Dublin County Council, Travellers Organisations and Groups and Community Representatives in recent weeks relating to the need for the provision of temporary official halting sites to be provided by the Council in the South Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In response to their request, the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Stagg, met the Fettercairn Community Council on 6 July 1993 to discuss the provision by Dublin County Council of a temporary halting site in the Cookstown area of Tallaght. The community council were advised that no proposal for the provision of such a site had been submitted to my Department. That is still the position. A proposal from the county council to provide a temporary halting site at Lynch's Lane, Balgaddy, Clondalkin, has recently been approved.

Discussions take place regularly between officials of Dublin County Council and my Department in relation to housing matters generally, including the provision of halting sites for travellers.
